| 1970 |
|
| Robert Ginsburg and colleagues at the Shell Research
Laboratory in Coral Gables, Florida pioneered work in comparative
sedimentology of carbonate sediments. This early work laid the foundation
for the formation of the CSL at Fisher Island Station when Ginsburg
joined the University of Miami in the early 1970's. |

| The acquisition of the former U.S. Quarantine station
on Fisher Island led to the founding of the Comparative Sedimentology

| Carbonate Facies Seminar were led by Robert Ginsburg
and his associates throughout the existence of the Comparative Sedimentology
Laboratory. Trips to the Bahamas and Belize were offered on a regular
basis. |
